I was obsessed with the beauty Youtuber era of 2010’s. Hauls, makeup tutorials, and monthly favourites. I would sit and devour this content for hours on end, making endless lists of all the makeup products I wanted. Luckily, entering my late twenties has made me consider my buying habits and I would like to think made me less of an impulsive buyer.
But one thing I still love watching is monthly favourites. Not just beauty ones, but books, lifestyle, home, media. So, I thought I would do it on my little quiet corner of the internet. - Books
“I’m a fan” by Sheena Patel:
Gorgeous. Addictive. Obsessive. We follow an unnamed narrator while she documents her toxic and tumultuous relationship with a married man, who also has multiple girlfriends. It’s a devastatingly human book, showcasing the uglinesses of loneliness, self-sabotage and longing for a love that isn’t right for you. It delves into whiteness, privilege and unhealthy obsessions. 5 stars. No notes. I am, indeed, a fan.
- TV Shows
Motherland:
I haven’t laughed out loud at a series since watching The Office (US version, ofc). “Motherland” follows a group of mothers from different socio-economic backgrounds navigating motherhood, childcare and identity. The episodes are the perfect length, and it’s incredibly bingeable. Would highly reccommend.
- YouTube
Also known as
(@bigbooklady) is a comfort creator of mine. I love her vlogs, her book recommendations always hit and her hair and style is impeccable.Malissa / a.k.a thepostofficegirl
I love Malissa’s energy. I feel like I’m on Facetime to a friend when I watch her videos. Be it on TikTok or YouTube, she’s so eloquent and she’s another person whose book and beauty recommendations I listen to without a second thought.
Mina has incredible style and even more incredible video essays. I love how she formats her essays into different sections and I love learning something new from her videos. She often covers pop culture, film, fashion and different beauty standards. Chef’s kiss.
- Hobbies
Journaling
I’ve started journalling daily now, and I’m really enjoying it. I either follow journal prompts or just vent/write how I’m feeling. I don’t put any pressure on myself to make my journal look pretty or fun, I simply just grab a pen and write. I would love to say I’m the type of person that does that but it’s not a priority for me right now. Maybe that will change as journalling becomes a solidified daily habit for me in the future.
Colouring
This literally brings me so much joy! I hadn’t done anything creative just for myself in a long time. My partner and I bought each other colouring books for Christmas and we’ve been putting a TV show on in the background while we sit and colour, our phones on silent. It’s been lovely, doing something that is simultaneously mindless but also requires a lot of focus.
